Honoring Legends at the NSGA Hall of Fame Induction

Last week, Mary and I had the honor of attending the 2025 NSGA Sporting Goods Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held during the final evening of the NSGA Leadership Conference. It’s always a meaningful event, but this year’s ceremony was particularly moving. I was fortunate to attend alongside a great team from Stahls’, and even more humbled to be invited on stage with my fellow past inductees.

Each year, the NSGA Hall of Fame reminds us what this industry is all about: people. The passion, perseverance, and purpose shown by the honorees and their families is what keeps the sporting goods industry going strong. The stories shared were heartfelt, genuine, and incredibly inspiring.

Congratulations to the Inductees

John Cardinal, who was honored posthumously, exemplified the American entrepreneurial spirit. From humble beginnings in a one-room farmhouse in Texas to building one of the state’s most respected sporting goods operations—Cardinal’s Sport Center—his journey is proof that heart and hard work go a long way. His commitment to helping young athletes, often by giving away shoes and equipment to those in need, truly moved everyone in the room. And it was powerful to see how his legacy continues through his son and grandson today.

Chris Considine’s story is one of vision and innovation. From his early days at Wilson Sporting Goods to becoming president and later founding Onward Advising and leading True Sports, Chris never stopped pushing for progress. His philosophy to “honor the past and lead to the future” resonates deeply. Under his leadership, Wilson became synonymous with innovation—products like the Evolution basketball and A2000 glove are household names. Just as inspiring is his dedication to U.S. manufacturing and his work with organizations like the Positive Coaching Alliance.

And E.J. “Ned” Hamilton—what a pioneer. Not only did he build the Peter Glenn Ski & Sports empire in some unlikely states (yes, Florida!), he helped bring snow sports to the masses. His work creating Consolidated Buying Associates and advocating for quality customer experiences helped grow the sport from the ground up. It’s no wonder he’s been recognized by the SIA with some of their highest honors.

Looking Forward

The night wasn’t just about looking back—it was also a chance to look forward. Between heartfelt speeches, we had the opportunity to connect with others in the industry. The energy in the room reminded me that while products and technologies evolve, it’s the people behind them who make the biggest impact.

Overall, Mary and I had a fantastic time. We left the evening feeling both proud and grateful. First of all, to be part of an industry that’s built on stories like these. And secondly, to have the opportunity to celebrate and learn from such extraordinary individuals.

Congratulations again to the 2025 NSGA Hall of Fame inductees. Your legacies continue to inspire all of us who work to serve athletes and communities through sports.
