On Saturday January 30th 2016, Stahls’ participated in our first Frozen Fish Fiasco and it was a huge success. During this fundraising event, our intrepid Team Stahls’ hockey players faced off against the revered Detroit Red Wings Alumni Team at Clark Park, (Detroit’s only regulation-sized outdoor ice rink) in an event designed to raise money to support youth hockey in southwest Detroit. We were very happy to see so many people from Stahls’ out at the rink on Saturday supporting this worthy cause. It’s always fun when you can cheer as either team scores. Mark Wells of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Team was instrumental in helping to get Team Stahls’ ready for the event and he also took care of the official puck drop at the start of the game. On Saturday, the sun was shining and the temperatures hovered in the high 40’s, providing a perfect setting for the large number of fans on hand to enjoy the game. The Red Wings Alumni, which included Mickey Redmond and Darren McCarty, were all wonderful sportsmen who played with talent and good humor and respected our team’s desire to put on a good show. We even managed to score 8 goals (I believe the final score was 8-9). It was a lot of fun and the sublimated jerseys we produced for both teams were a huge hit. Thanks to everyone who came out to the park and to all those behind the scenes at Stahls’ that helped make the event a success. See you next year?
