Heat Printing and Politics

This is not my car, (it’s from a Twitter post) but why must someone’s property be damaged just for supporting a political candidate? Let’s show some respect for each other folks.

I’ve been told that heat printing and politics don’t mix. Actually I haven’t heard that but I needed a way to bring the topic of politics into my blog (which is supposed to talk about heat printing). Not that anyone needs an excuse to discuss politics these days. We ALL should be very concerned about what is happening in our country and around the world and that happens to involve politics. I implore you to become educated and get the facts on any political issues that concern you. Sometimes this involves talking and listening to people who may have a different opinion than you do. Frankly I always appreciate an intelligent discussion about political issues, and I always show my discussion partner the respect their opinions deserve. If I don’t agree, there’s no reason for me to get bent out of shape or angry. There is already too much anger and hate in the world, we can all agree on that. The anger in the air surrounding this presidential election is something I hope dissapates quickly after Nov. 6th, no matter who wins. It is destructive and shows a complete lack of respect for those with opposing opinions. This lack of respect is manifesting itself in many different ways, and I hope you are not experiencing what I have in the past few weeks. For example, after putting a very tasteful and discreet bumper sticker on my car, I have been the target of outrageous behavior from complete strangers on the local highways. More than once I have had people cut me off, display graphic hand gestures and make otherwise threatening moves. All because I dare (gasp) to support a presidential candidate that they don’t (yes, I’m sure it’s not my driving style they are criticizing). I shudder to think what would happen if I put a sign up in my yard but I don’t want to endanger my family or invite damage to my property. I actually consider myself lucky that my car hasn’t been “keyed” like some other people have reported on Twitter. In any event, the one thing that bothers me the most about this is the complete lack of respect that is being demonstrated. I’m curious if this is happening to you? I hope that people aren’t afraid to talk with me when their views differ from mine. I promise I won’t key your car or throw stones in your windows if you put up signs that support your candidate. I might not agree with you, but I’m not going to try to frighten you into voting for someone else. Now if you want to have an intelligent discussion about the issues…I’ll listen to what you have to say if you listen to what I have to say. It’s time to dial back the anger and focus on the real issues. Let’s show a little respect folks. And be kind. By the way, if you feel the urge to “key” your computer screen because you disagree with my politics, it’s probably not a good idea.
