This year’s ASICS L.A. Marathon (#LAMarathon) will always be remembered for its record-breaking heat (more than 30 runners were hospitalized). But each of the 26,000 participants who took on the 26.2 miles also had the opportunity to take home a very personal, custom t-shirt. The custom printing services were provided for free by L.A. Marathon sponsor ASICS, (@asicsamerica) who brought in a team from Stahls’ to help with the heat printing. According to Dave Wheatley, who coordinated the heat printing services with ASICS, over 1,000 items (performance shirts, shorts, jackets and bags) were custom printed during the two-day event. “Almost everyone who stopped by commented on what a great idea it was to offer on-demand printing,” reported Dave. “Many have a special message or cause they want to share with the world and running is a means to help them do that–customizing apparel allows them to express it clearly. Multiple people left in tears as the reality of commemorating their purpose was realized with some select words on a shirt. It was a very powerful experience.” Dave reminded me of a recent blog post that spoke of the importance of receiving a jersey with your name on it. He also told me, “I was fortunate to hand a younger girl a shirt, that for the first time ever, had her name on it.” Dave said he won’t be forgetting that feeling anytime soon. The team from Stahls’ used the power of Cadworxlive.com to create the custom graphics, which were cut in CAD-CUT materials and applied while the runner waited. Of course using Hotronix heat presses. Congratulations to all the participants, whether you finished or not. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.
Awesome! I love that Stahls’ took the time to make custom tshirts for the runners! Everyone has something to share, so I think this was a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing!
