We Get By With a Little Help From Our Friends

Thank you to our friends who helped figure out what was wrong with the Stars and Stripes this morning.

Before leaving Amarillo, Texas on June 23rd, the Stars and Stripes team discovered that the car was in need of a new shock absorber. A weld had worked its way loose and it needed fixing. Luckily, we were immediately surrounded by helpful fellow racers, who are not afraid to get their hands dirty. This is one of the things we love about the Great Race–the spirit of camaraderie and willingness to help other racers. Luckily, the car was still able to drive and Trevor and Josh will make sure the repair is completed before leaving Santa Fe, New Mexico. Along the way on Tuesday we got to experience more of the beauty of Route 66. The long stretches of straight, seemingly endless asphalt is punctuated with both natural and man made beauty, including the Cadillac Ranch outside of Amarillo. We stopped and even added a bit of magic to the public art installation. We continue to be mesmerized by the buildings and small towns along the route. Many of the historic buildings date back to the 1920’s and sometimes it seems like time is standing still. We are appreciating every mile of this Great Race.
