Photo courtesy of the Great Race blog. Kirkwood, MO is the starting point of this year’s rally and it looks like the town is ready to great the racers.
Even though it seems like we’ve been getting the cars ready since the Great Race 2014 ended last year, we keep finding things to repair. And only a few short days before loading the cars up for the trek to Kirkwood, Missouri, the starting point for the Great Race 2015. (@TheGreatRace) But we’re in the home stretch. During one of the drive tests for the 1934 Ford Deluxe Phaeton, we discovered sparks flying and a hole in the muffler. Driving tests also revealed necessary tweaks to brake and ignition systems and the need for a new steering mechanism. So much better and easier to take care of everything here instead of when we are on the road. We also installed a cover (I hesitate to call it a roof) on the 1932 Ford Speedster, AKA “Stars and Stripes.” Hopefully it will offer Trevor and Josh a bit of protection from the sun and other weather we may encounter. The Starts and Stripes is almost ready to roll. The new cover will be much appreciated by Trevor and Josh during the rally.
This car has come a long way in just a few months.
Thomas and Benjamin will be glad to know we took care of some key steering, ignition and muffler issues. We are hoping that ALL the Spirt of Stahls cars will cross the finish line this year.
