If you own a custom textile printing or embroidery business, you’ll really enjoy watching the Oct. 21 episode of  “The Profit” on CNBC. I was fascinated as investor Marcus Lemonis reviewed and critiqued the custom apparel business Artistic Stitch in Glendale, New York. It’s a wild ride as Marcus points out some of their biggest weaknesses and helps them turn the shop around after becoming a 50% shareholder.  (You can watch the show online if you have the right TV provider.  Click here to see the episode.)  You might all too well recognize some of the challenges that Artistic Stitch has to overcome. I have to applaud Marcus for helping the business refocus and move in a more profitable direction, and even louder applause for a direction that includes on-demand customization. One key decision was to design a retail space in the store, offer a trendy pre-print line (Queens Vibe) and offer  on demand garment creation. This interactive space allows anyone to come into the store, draw a picture and have their art printed directly onto a t-shirt. If you look closely you’ll also see a Hotronix Fusion heat press that is featured in the store. We wish Marcus and everyone at Artistic Stitch and Queens Vibe all the best. Congratulations on your successful reinvention.
