We’re back. Even though we’ve showered, unpacked, slept and eaten, it still takes a few days to readjust to life off the road. Our strained eyes can luxuriate under normal lighting conditions and there’s no need to stare out the window looking for a road sign that indicates a turn. All the drivers have sunburns on their left arms, all the navigators have sunburns on their right arms. And we won’t soon forget the emotionally moving stories that were shared at the Great Race Awards dinner. It’s more than just the Grand Champion that is recognized, there are awards given to those who were able to overcome health adversities, who achieved personal bests and those who went above and beyond to keep their cars rolling. More important than the awards, we realize once again that we couldn’t have done this without a lot of support. Thank you to those who were on the road with us, in our support van and helping to keep the cars running. To all our fellow Great Racers who took the time to help us tweak a repair or offered advice on how to keep the rain out. To all our family members who spent time with us, either in person or on the phone or online–your support means everything and we thank you for taking the time to experience this adventure with us. We are also extremely thankful for everyone at GroupeSTAHL companies around the world who were cheering us on, celebrating with pizza and ice cream parties and waving your “Spirit of Stahls” towels from your home base. Thank you to the scores of customers in the small towns through which we passed who came out to say hello and shake our hands. You are what makes America great. We really enjoyed meeting all of you. After this Great Race, we know what the lyrics mean in America the Beautiful, when they sing “The amber waves of grain.” It was a privilege to experience every moment.
