An auction house in California is going to be putting a Babe Ruth jersey on the block beginning April 30, 2012. Ruth wore the circa 1920 Yankees road jersey after he made the move to the Yankees from the arch-rival Boston Red Sox. Previously on display at The Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore, Md., the jersey will be put up for auction for the first time as part of SCP Auctions’ spring auction. According to their website, it is expected to bring in seven figures.
Some industry experts have speculated that the Ruth jersey could make sports memorabilia history as the most expensive single item ever sold.
If you want to bid, I would suggest you get registered. Bidding starts April 30 to May 19, and will be conducted online at SCPAuctions.com. The auction is said to feature hundreds of other historically-significant sports memorabilia items and cards. I hope I don’t find anything I “have to have.” Enjoy the walk down sports-memorbilia lane.
