Movies in Michigan

I hear there’s about 1,000 people outside the Grosse Pointe High School this evening, with people waiting to catch a glimpse of none other than Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore, at least according to GroupeSTAHL VP of Marketing Carleen Gray. She mentions that it is the second or third time this summer that she has noticed blocked streets and large crowds in this suburban neighborhood. “Richard Gere has rented a home here for the summer and has been spotted at local restaurants.” What’s the attaction? You don’t have to sell Michigan to me, I love the place! But to boost the economy in the state, and lure jobs to Michigan, the state put a series of tax incentives into effect in 2008. This however, has not been enough to turn Detroit into the next Hollywood, and there have also been reports of fraud and corruption, with folks trying to take unfair advantage of the tax credits offered. If you’ve seen the Clint Eastwood film Gran Torino, this was the biggest name film that was the result of this effort, most of the others have been by unknown, local producers. So what’s the name of the film that’s being filmed this evening?  From what I can gather, it’s most likely a remake of the 2008 French hit film “LOL: Laughing Out Loud.” But don’t quote me on that. And no autographs, please. Hopefully someone is out there selling t-shirts to all those people, is all I can say. This has got to be bringing business to our local stores and restaurants!
