On Tuesday, June 26, the Great Race entered the great state of Maine for the first time since 2014. In 2014 the race started in Ogunquit, Maine and we have wonderful memories from that race. We left Burlington, Vermont bright and early and had a curvy but scenic drive to Mt. Washington, Vermont for our lunch stop. The views were truly spectacular. We are very happy to report that the father and sons team of Brett, Dan and William received their very first ACE this afternoon. This is quite an achievement for our young navigator Noah. Congratulations! The Mustang Sallys, Kari and Kaitlyn, also earned two ACES in their 1st Great Race appearance. We are also very proud of Krystin and Micaela, AKA the Pink Ladies, who earned their very first ACE. This is the first time any of these young women have participated in a Great Race and they are learning by doing. It’s not easy earning ACES. (Just got the pic but Trevor and Josh earned 3 ACES yesterday, congrats guys!) Our arrival in Gardiner, Maine was a typical warm welcome with thousands of car enthusiasts coming out to greet us. There was also a local car show going on. Downtown Gardiner is a traditional Maine small town, full of charm and old-fashioned hospitality. You just feel at home here. And the dinner, which was held on the banks of the Kennebec River, was award-winning. Lobster, clams, corn on the cob, potatoes…it was a real New England experience and it was absolutely delicious.
