For those of you who aren’t sure what “weeding” is, the short video below will give you an idea. For those of you who know all too well what “weeding” is, here is one very important tip that isn’t mentioned in the video: Weeding CAD-CUT material on a warm surface, such as a pre-warmed lower platen or just a glass tablet that is warm (not melty-hot), can often make your weeding much easier. In lieu of getting into a complicated explanation of the physics involved, a little warmth will gently release the adhesion tension of the mylar backing, allowing you to more easily weed out the vinyl/film pieces you don’t want to print. Give it a try the next time you have to weed a complicated design. You’ll be glad you did. Of course the warm surface shouldn’t ever be warm enough to burn you or melt the material while working.
