Getting Closer to the Great Race 2017

Four teams representing the Spirit of Stahls are participating in the Great Race 2017.

The Great Race 2017 takes off from Jacksonville, Florida on June 24th. Late last week, the cars that the Spirit of Stahls teams will be driving were loaded onto the transport truck and are on their way south. This year the Great Race follows a route that stretches 2,600 miles from Jacksonville, Florida to Traverse City, Michigan. Mary and I, along with the three other Spirit of Stahls teams are looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new racers as they begin to arrive in Florida. We also look forward to meeting as many of you as possible who live near the scheduled stops. It’s always an event when the Great Racers pull into town.

If you live anywhere near the scheduled stops, put these dates on your calendar.

Please come out and say hello if you are on the route.

This year, if you live in the metro Detroit area or plan to be in area on June 30th, you may want to take advantage of a fantastic opportunity to view the Great Race. Racers have a scheduled stop at the Stahl Auto Museum in Chesterfield, Michigan on June 30th for lunch.  We hope as many folks as possible come out to view and cheer on 130 Great Race drivers and navigators as they arrive in Chesterfield.  Like Mary says, “this is a once in a lifetime event that’s great for families!” There will be outdoor seating set up, and the cars will come in every minute straight for about 90 minutes. It’s going to be quite an amazing and special spectacle. There will be food trucks for visitors. Please note that the Stahl Auto Museum won’t be open to the public until after the racers depart, but will have open visiting hours from approximately 3pm-5pm on that day. For more information on the event, please visit the Stahl Auto Museum website.

Loading the 1941 Packard…this will be her 5th Great Race.

And there goes the Spirit of Stahls. Off to Florida for the start of the Great Race 2017.

See you in Jacksonville! Safe travels with our precious “car” go.
